I guess too long for the comment section ... so I'm starting this blog (1st one) to get it all in. Welcome to me to the blog world!
Ms. Parker is right! In fact all of you are right ... in your opinion, but not much else. I believe the responses Ms. Parker received to her Palin column are indicative of some of the main problems our current world faces.
Ms. Parker's coup de grace was her request for Palin to step down. She is entitled to make her point and she did it with class. It makes no difference to me if I don't agree with it, I respect her opinion and will not disparage her. How ironic for republicans or conservatives to use vitriolic speech which is anathema to the underlying principles of the party that "good" or "real" republicans try (I repeat try) to adhere to. If I have to give examples of either ... you might as well quit reading.
Methinks that skulduggery is afoot which, I believe, is by far too much of the way the world deals with it's issues and problems. Instead of healthy, direct dialog with civil and respectful words -- propaganda, distortion, revisionism, bold lies and "al-Taqiyya" (dissimulation) are the norm and rule debate that often turns to debacle and zipping bullets. Especially when dealing with self-serving ego-maniacs.
It's almost as if one wants to survive in this world, one has to de-evolve to the lowest common denominator of tolerance, civility and humanness just to stay in the game. I can see why people think they have to think that way ... it's not like we (everybody) aren't almost constantly bombarded with this bull-bleep from every corner of life. Right, just call me overly pessimistic, but look at the news and see the results and un-fair suffering all over the world as a consequence of this "learned" strategy.
Therefore, combined with blind partisanism, democrats and liberals pretending to be republicans feel no compunction about writing mean-spirited comments to obvious sites and columns as a way to dupe somewhat sensitive and less informed republicans into thinking they are wrong. Also republicans with axes to grind (real or pretend) jump on the bandwagon. Or people who live with unrepentant "secrets" feel threatened by those who try (repeat try) to do the right thing ... because they don't want (or can't) give up their way of life. And then there are those who just want to show the world or "prove" just how low-life some republicans are or can be (makes them look better to others and feel better about themselves -- just ask Springer viewers).
Finally, in my president and veep, I want people who can break through all of the afore-mentioned "smoke" and call it like it is. Someone who is discerning enough to know when to shut-up (not give away strategies) and when to break down convoluted questions to their basics and play along using their own "cloud" to win the gotcha game that the masses only seem to care about anyway.
Question? When McCain stated on George's show, "Kathleen Parker ... if that's her name ... " was he admitting that he really dosn't read one of the most respected conservative columnists or was he just trying to give her a shot?!
